Thank you for voting "YES" on Amendments 5 & 6!
Education
The mission of the League of Women Voter is to educate its members and the public regarding issues on which the League has taken a position. Positions are reached after a study of the issue at the national, state or local level and members voted on the position. When a decision has been reached on a position, Presidents of the League speak on behalf of that position and League members are asked to call and write their legislative representatives to let them know that there are citizens who care how they govern.
Voter Services provide another means to education citizens choose their elected representatives. The League is known for its candidate forums where candidates are provided with an opportunity to introduce themselves and their positions on issues in a balanced, non-partisan environment.
Advocacy
Good government, natural resources, civil liberties, education, ERA, growth management, health issues, international relations, and transportation are just some of the areas of our advocacy and education.
The oil spill disaster in the gulf has focused the nation's attention on the need to preserve our natural resources and move away from our dependence on foreign oil. Deirdre MacNab, LWVFL President, has written 2 editorials which have been published in the Miami Herald and the Orlando Sentinal.
Fair Districts is one of the issues that our State league has worked on for years. League members joined other citizen groups in collecting signatures for the two Fair Districts petitions which were successfully passed on the November 2010 ballot as Amendments 5 & 6.
